Christmas! Everything you need to know

We’re coming up to (already in?) one of the busiest periods of every year. We know you are making endless lists and plans to get organised for the Christmas season or will be soon, so we will make this as easy as possible: here are all the key dates you need from us – when we are open over the Christmas and New Year period as well as deadlines for orders from our online store.

When are you open over Christmas?
So glad you asked! Here are our opening hours over Christmas and New Year:

Boxing Day                11:00am-6:00pm
27th-30th December    hours as normal

 What are the cut-off dates for Christmas delivery?

We strongly recommend getting your online orders in no later than:

18th December                  for delivery in Victoria
11th December                  for interstate delivery

We can’t guarantee delivery in time for Christmas if orders are placed to be posted after these dates.

 Is there any way I can order after these dates?

Yes! Our online store has a ‘Click & Collect’ option, which means you can order and pay online and then collect your order in one of our lounges. Select this option at checkout, and let us know in the comments when and where you would like to collect.

How can I track my posted order?

We keep hold of a tracking number for every parcel we post. When your order is dispatched you will receive an email offering the tracking number; please respond to this email and let us know if you would like the number to track the item yourself.

What about cake orders?

Cake orders are business as usual. Cakes can be ordered up to and including the 22nd December, for final pick up available before 6:00pm on Christmas Eve. Order in our online store www.ganache.com.au, visit us in person or ring us on 9804 7485 to order.

Horse pops and shoes and cocktails, oh my!

Melbourne truly goes wild for Cup Day and the whole spring racing season. The weather gets warmer, we get to dress up a little bit fancy, and we get a long weekend! If you’re off to the races or hosting your own event at home, we are here with some spring racing inspired ideas designed to make your day the easiest and most enjoyable it can be.

If you’re going to the races, we have put together a takeaway hamper inspired by our chocolate high tea which is perfectly portioned for two. It includes two drinks each, and a selection from our sweet and savoury range including patisserie, macarons, pralines, salt caramel popcorn, quiches, teacake, and our chocolate horse head pops.

It all comes packaged in a thermos bag to protect your treats from the heat.

Skip the lines and the high costs at the races, instead pre-order and pick this up from one of our lounges on your way in the morning.

If you’re staying home or having some people over, you can also buy our chocolate horse head pops from our lounges. These make great little on-theme party favours.

So do our praline filled or solid mini shoes.

You can also order our patisserie and other sweet treats on UberEats (every day over the long weekend except Tues 7/11 when our lounges will be closed).

 

We’re also sharing two recipes for two of our in-house cocktails, one fruity and one chocolate-y, so that you can whip up a couple of batches in no time!

For the fruit lovers …

Raspberry Bliss Cocktail

15ml Cointreau
30ml apple juice
1x scoop raspberry sorbet
3x ice cubes

Blend ingredients together and garnish martini glass with a slice of orange. Voila!

For the chocolate lovers …

15ml Frangelico
30ml dark chocolate ganache (buy at most supermarkets)
1x scoop chocolate gelato

Chocolate classes: everything you need to know

Of all the great and creative things we do here at Ganache, one of our favourites is hosting our chocolate making classes which anyone can attend. So here is everything you need to know on how to get involved with our classes, including final dates for this year, dates for next year, private classes, and gift vouchers.

The last classes for 2017 were supposed to be held in October, but due to demand we have added some further dates into November. So if you missed out on attending a class this year, now you haven’t!

Your next opportunity is this Saturday 21/10, where you can attend our Nougat and Honeycomb class. This is mostly a demonstration class, giving some insights into how honeycomb and nougat are made. Master Chocolatier Arno Backes will take you through this, and demonstrate various tempering techniques. At the end you will have some seriously delicious honeycomb and chocolate sticks. Arno will be working with honeycomb that comes from the beehive on the roof of the South Yarra chocolate lounge. You can see more and book here.

On Sunday 26th November is the Truffle Making Experience, one of our most popular classes. It is (we think) almost impossible not to love truffles – they are classic and melt-in-your-mouth. This is a fun-filled, hands-on class, in which you will learn how to make a variety of these signature chocolates. This includes related techniques such as piping, rolling, dipping, and tempering. Book here.

These chocolate making classes are also a fantastic idea if you are looking for a group activity, whether it is a corporate work team you want to reward or another more personal events such as a hens party. If you’re interested in a private class, we will be taking limited bookings in November and very early December.

We have been waiting for at least a month for the weather to warm up (we’re optimists) and it finally is! To welcome in this true spring and almost summer weather, we’ve launched a couple of new cool drinks.

Since we first wrote a blog introducing our new chocolate High Tea in February this year, it has become so popular that we expanded it into both of our chocolate lounges. We truly love seeing people relaxing and taking their time over a generous sampling of our sweet and savoury range, and hearing what people are enjoying the most.

The upside of not-quite-Spring

We were hoping that the beginning of spring in Melbourne would be the start of cooler drinks and sunnier days, but as we type this blog it is grey outside, and pouring rain! Winter has not quite gone and warmth has not quite arrived. Ah, Melbourne. Your weather cannot be relied upon, but fortunately the deliciousness of our Hot Chocolates can be!

Our range includes twelve varieties of delicious, liquid, chocolatey goodness, all made with real ganache and garnished with the signature Ganache ‘G’.

If you like your hot chocolate classic with a slight twist, go for our signature 60% dark ganache variety, or perhaps 60% dark with cinnamon, chilli, mint or hazelnut. For a slightly different taste, we have a salt caramel hot chocolate, or white / milk specialty varieties if dark chocolate is not quite your taste.

Milk, dark, or white – what’s the difference?

Get to know your chocolate!i0sKyZn8 Whether it is snuggling in front of our favourite show at home, devouring a good novel on the weekend or on the go, chocolate bars are the perfect go-to treat. Not all chocolate is created equal however, so today we’ll be exploring three types of chocolate: dark, white and milk. Do you know the difference?

Described as semi-sweet with a slightly bitter flavour, dark chocolate has the highest percentage of cocoa solids and cocoa butter of all chocolate types. Containing a minimum of 60% cocoa, it melts easier than white chocolate at room temperature. Packed with antioxidants, epicatechin and gallic acids, dark chocolate eliminates toxins, lowers the risk of heart disease and stimulates the brain. So not only does it taste great, it does wonders for your health too!

Although white chocolate is commonly called a ‘chocolate’, many may be surprised to know that it’s not actually legally a chocolate! This is because it doesn’t contain cocoa solids, but made by combining cocoa butter with sugar and milk. While its health benefits are not as widespread as dark chocolate, white chocolate contains calcium that’s good for your bones.

Hands up who’s a sweet tooth? With a minimum of 30 percent pure chocolate and added cocoa butter and milk, this addition gives milk chocolate that creamier texture and sweeter taste that we love.

So which one do you gravitate towards – dark, white or milk?

For dark chocolate aficionados, we have an assortment of dark bars for you, ranging from 60% up to 99%. For white chocolate lovers, check out our classic plain white or strawberry and cream bars. And last but not least, our classic milk chocolates come in a range of varieties: fruit & nut, ginger & orange, hazelnut chocolate, and orange and almond, just to name a few!

For diabetics and the more sugar-conscious, don’t fret! We have our no sugar added bars that come in dark and milk – or our 85% and 99% bars which have absolutely no sugar at all – there’s truly something for everyone.

4 tips to get the most out of chocolate

Unfortunately, we tend to think of chocolate as an unhealthy treat which should be consumed only occasionally, and then when we do we often feel guilty about it. This is a shame because certain kinds of chocolate, consumed the right way, are very beneficial to the human body for a number of reasons! We are here with four tips to help you get the most out of your favourite treat, and give up that food-guilt for good.

1. Go dark

Dark chocolate is high in healthy fats and antioxidants, has minerals like magnesium and iron, and has been linked to multiple health benefits including lowered risk of heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure! The higher the percentage of cacao, the more nutrients and antioxidants are retained, and the better it is for you. Our dark chocolate bar range begins at 60% and includes 75%, 85%, and 99% (!) No matter your preference, you are bound to find something to satisfy your cravings in the best way possible.

2. Try chocolate for your next energy boost

A small amount of high quality, 72% dark chocolate has around 22mg of caffeine! That is only about a quarter of the caffeine in a cup of coffee, but if all you need is a little boost it could be the perfect choice. Pair a few squares of dark chocolate with a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts (or choose a bar with nuts in it already, like our hazelnut variety) for a well-rounded snack to get you through the afternoon.

3. Think outside the box

Your next chocolate hit doesn’t necessarily need to come in the form of a chocolate bar (though that is often what we choose…) For example, a frappe or milkshake made with chocolate ganache and gelato is a different and refreshing way to get that sweet hit, or a paleo ball with coconut and cacao will have the same effect minus the calories and processing. Include cocoa powder or raw cocao nibs in recipes, melt quality chocolate and add to protein smoothies or balls, or make a decadent chocolate sauce – the possibilities are endless! 4. Don’t let dietary needs be a barrier

It can be tricky and sometimes disappointing when our dietary needs or dietary lifestyle choices mean that we are limited or restricted in what we can enjoy for a treat, but this doesn’t need to be the case! If you know where to look you will find something that allows you to both look out for your health and enjoy your favourite things.
